Anita Gerewal is a qualified patent, trade mark, and industrial design agent with more than 10 years of experience in a broad spectrum of intellectual property matters. Her practice focuses extensively on intellectual property litigation and enforcement, where she regularly advises and represents clients in disputes involving trade mark infringement, copyright infringement, passing off, counterfeiting, domain name disputes, and the protection and commercialisation of intellectual property rights. She has substantial experience in enforcing intellectual property rights through government and regulatory agencies, as well as handling opposition proceedings, settlement negotiations, and strategic IP portfolio management.

Anita is also a  WIPO Panelist with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), where she adjudicates domain name disputes under international dispute resolution frameworks. Her appointment reflects her recognised expertise in intellectual property law and cross-border digital and brand protection matters.

Beyond litigation and enforcement, Anita advises on the prosecution of trade mark, patent, and industrial design applications, together with a wide range of IP-related commercial agreements, including licensing, technology transfer, software and computer agreements, confidentiality obligations, and brand protection strategies.

Anita is also a franchise consultant, advising franchisors and franchisees on franchise structuring, franchise agreements, regulatory compliance, licensing arrangements, and the expansion and protection of franchise businesses. She further advises clients on matters relating to gaming and food regulations, Personal Data Protection, and privacy laws.

​

In addition to her legal practice, Anita actively contributes to the development of intellectual property law through academic and professional engagements. She has presented papers on intellectual property law at numerous seminars and conferences organised by local universities and professional bodies. Anita previously served as a member of the Group Standing Committee for Copyright (2015–2018) of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) Malaysia and currently serves as a member of the Group Standing Committee for Designs (2019–2020) of APAA Malaysia. She is also the past president for Licensing Executives Society Malaysia (LESM) and currently a member of the IP Committee, Malaysian Bar Council.

She is also the author of the Copyright chapter for the Lexis Practical Guidance Commercial module, reflecting her depth of expertise and contribution to the advancement of intellectual property law and practice.
